Praslin is the Seychelles' second island, a slower, greener retreat famous for the ancient palm forest of the Vallée de Mai and beaches that turn up on postcards worldwide. When to go
Like the rest of the Seychelles, Praslin is warm all year and shaped by trade winds. The calmer, drier season from December to March suits beach days and snorkelling, while the breezier May to September stretch is cooler and good for walking. April and October are transitional and often gloriously calm.
Getting there from Montreal
Reaching Praslin from eastern Canada means first flying into Mahé, which involves an overnight Atlantic crossing and one or two connections through a Gulf hub like Doha or Dubai, or a European hub such as Paris. From Mahé you continue to Praslin by the Cat Cocos fast ferry or a short island hop by small plane. Allow a full day of travel plus the onward transfer.

Good to know before you go
The currency is the Seychellois rupee, and cards work in hotels and larger restaurants. There are no ride-hailing apps on Praslin, so plan around taxis and hotel transfers, with the Cat Cocos and Inter Island ferries linking you to Mahé and La Digue; you do not need a rental car. English, French, and Seychellois Creole are spoken, so French speakers feel at home; it is safe and quiet, but keep valuables secured and bring reef-safe sunscreen and water for the trails.
