Flights from Quebec City (YQB) to Dolomites, Italy
Here is what to know before booking a flight to Dolomites from Quebec City.
From Quebec City, the best fare spotted recently to Dolomites is $1028.
The Dolomites are a range of pale, jagged peaks in north-eastern Italy, listed by UNESCO for the sheer walls and spires that rise straight out of high green meadows. The region straddles South Tyrol, Trentino and the Veneto, so a single valley can mix Italian, German and Ladin, with apple strudel and canederli dumplings on the same menu as polenta. Base yourself in Val Gardena, Alta Badia or Cortina d'Ampezzo, ride the lifts up to ridgelines like Seceda, and walk the loop around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo!
When to go
There are two seasons here, with quiet gaps between them. Summer, from mid-June to mid-September, is when the lifts and mountain huts (rifugi) open for hiking and via ferrata, with warm days, cool nights and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so start walks early; August is the busiest and most expensive month. Winter, from December to early April, brings skiing on the Dolomiti Superski network, including the Sella Ronda circuit around the Sella massif. In late spring and from mid-October to late November many lifts, huts and hotels close, leaving empty trails and golden larches in October but few services.
Getting there from Quebec City
There are no flights from Canada into the Dolomites, and most travellers arrive through Venice, Verona, Innsbruck or Bolzano, then continue by bus or train. From Montreal (YUL), expect one connection to Venice or Verona through a European hub such as Paris, Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich; from Quebec City (YQB), add a first leg via Montreal or Toronto. Another option is to fly into Munich and take the train over the Brenner Pass to Bolzano or Bressanone, then a regional bus up the valley. From Venice, coaches reach Cortina d'Ampezzo in about two to two and a half hours, and buses from Bolzano climb to Val Gardena in about an hour.

Good to know before you go
Regional buses do most of the work: SAD in South Tyrol and Dolomiti Bus on the Veneto side link the valleys, train stations and many trailheads, and lifts carry you up from there; many South Tyrol hotels give guests a card with free or discounted local transport. Uber is not an option in the mountains, so book taxis or transfers through your hotel. The currency is the euro and cards are widely accepted, but carry cash for mountain huts. Italian and German are spoken, plus Ladin in Val Gardena and Alta Badia, so villages go by several names: Ortisei is also St. Ulrich, and Urtijëi in Ladin. Tap water is safe; book huts ahead in summer, check the forecast before any high route, and note that at peak times access to Lago di Braies and the Tre Cime toll road can require a booking.
