Flights from Montreal (YUL) to Mendoza, Argentina

Here is what to know before booking a flight to Mendoza from Montreal.

From Montreal, fares to Mendoza usually run between $1100 and $1550. The best fare spotted recently is $1225.

Mendoza is Argentina's wine capital, a sun-soaked city where leafy plazas and irrigation canals sit at the foot of the towering Andes. This is Malbec country: hundreds of wineries fan out across Maipu and the Uco Valley, pouring bold reds beside mountain views. Cycle between cellars, linger over long lunches, then trade the vineyards for adventure, rafting mountain rivers or gazing up at Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas. Warm days, snowy summits and great steak await. Salud!

When to go

Seasons are reversed from Canada. Harvest season, February to April, is the liveliest time, with the grape harvest, warm days and the big Vendimia wine festival in early March. Summer, December to February, is hot and dry, great for rafting and higher-altitude trips. Winter, June to August, is cooler and quieter, with snow on the Andes and access to nearby skiing. Spring blossoms make November lovely too. Book ahead around Vendimia.

Getting there from Montreal

Expect a full travel day from eastern Canada. From YQB or YUL you'll connect through a US hub, then fly to Buenos Aires, typically arriving at the international airport (EZE) and transferring to the domestic terminal (AEP). From there it's a short two-hour flight to Mendoza (MDZ) on Aerolineas Argentinas, JetSmart or Flybondi. Some itineraries route via Santiago, Chile instead, which sits just over the Andes. Plan for at least two connections.

What to see and do

  • Malbec tastings across Maipu and the Uco Valley
  • Cycling winery-to-winery on a self-guided bike tour
  • Views of Aconcagua, the Americas' highest peak
  • Whitewater rafting on Andean rivers

Good to know before you go

In the city, taxis and radio-taxis are cheap and plentiful, and ride-hailing apps Uber, Cabify and DiDi all operate; city buses use the rechargeable SUBE card. For wine country, skip driving and book a tour with a driver or rent a bike so you can taste freely. Argentina's currency is the peso (ARS), and with fast inflation it helps to bring US dollars in cash to exchange. Cards are accepted in most wineries and restaurants. Spanish is spoken, tap water is safe, and the sun is strong, so pack a hat and sunscreen for those vineyard afternoons.
